Paraneoplastic syndrome (paraneoplasticsyndrome, PNS) is a systemic tumor in the central nervous system (CNS) and the remote effects of muscle systems (remoteeffects), when the limbic system is mainly affected by the tired, the clinical manifestations of amnestic syndrome. The characteristic symptoms of the disease is progressive dementia and obvious memory disorder, especially in recent memory disorder, also visible generalized seizures, myoclonus, speech disorder and cerebellar signs etc.. In addition to the brain stem can be seen in the corresponding cerebral palsy, central hypoventilation.

Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis caused by amnestic syndrome clinical manifestations can be static, progressive or recurrent form. The clinical manifestations of patients with near term memory serious damage, the ability to learn new things is obviously decreased. Far from memory impairment is generally light, recording ability is not affected. In some cases, there are cases of anxiety and depression, which usually occur in the early stages of the syndrome, hallucinations, and partial or generalized seizures. In many cases, the progressive development of amnesia syndrome, until the development of dementia.

Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis most commonly associated with small cell lung cancer, the syndrome usually found in lung cancer before.

1 the clinical symptoms and signs of amnestic syndrome due to limbic system encephalitis.

2 primary tumor.

Laboratory examination:

1 there was a small amount of monocytes in cerebrospinal fluid, and a moderate increase in protein.

2 serological examination can sometimes find an antibody to the Ma2 protein of neurons.

Other auxiliary examination:

1 EEG: sometimes manifested as diffuse slow wave, or double temporal Ye Manbo, or spikes exist.

2.MRI: abnormal signals can be seen in the temporal lobe, hippocampus, cingulate gyrus, insula and amygdala.

3 histological examination: found in cerebral cortical neuronal loss, gliosis, glial cell proliferation and perivascular infiltration of lymphocytes with sleeve. In the hippocampus, cingulate cortex, piriform cortex, inferior frontal lobe, insula and amygdala, gray matter is the most common lesion.

Treatment: the symptoms of limbic encephalitis can be relieved after primary tumor resection or chemotherapy, and there are also reports of plasma exchange. There is no special treatment, so the treatment of the primary disease is particularly important. Due to lack of vitamin B1 caused by Korsakoff syndrome should pay special attention to, because cancer patients often accompanied by severe nutritional deficiency, vitamin B1 in the treatment of a large number of applications may improve the amnestic syndrome worsening process.
